Wiles Mensch Corporation – DC (WM) is providing surveying and civil engineering services (through 2020 for civil) for upgrades to the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, DC. The Cannon Building has not received a comprehensive systems upgrade since the 1930s, and many of the building’s systems are original – dating back to 1908 or earlier. The systems are past the end of their useful lives, and the increasing risk of their failure jeopardizes the building’s long-term functionality and safety. Other necessary work includes upgrading infrastructure systems and repairing the exterior stone façade.
WM is providing services for the preservation of the interior and exterior of the six-story building. The building was originally designed in 1904 and later opened in 1908. Due to this fact, the design team took into account the historic nature of the building.
WM is responsible for providing full design services for the site design tasks of this contract. This involved site development tasks included site demolition, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, fire and domestic water lines, storm and sanitary laterals, drainage, and ADA compliance.
Due to the function of this space, the WM team will account for the high security nature of this project by ensuring that the confidential aspects of the design and construction remained secured.
