Wiles Mensch Corporation – DC (WM) provided civil engineering, surveying and landscape architecture services for the development of an entertainment and sports venue on the St. Elizabeth’s West Campus. The 18,000 SF facility is located on an abandoned 176-acre historic site in a neighborhood undergoing extensive revitalization. The design approach considered the historic fabric the facility has be woven into, while remaining focused on addressing scope requirements.
The WM team was able to meet programmatic requirements of the development within the uniquely shaped site including, a secure 51-space surface parking lot, stormwater management practices, and a designated loading dock area with concessions for broadcast trailers. Extensive permitting coordination was required to address site issues for the development. WM coordinated review and approvals by the Zoning Commission, DC Council, DC Water, DOEE, and DDOT.
The new building features extensive green roofs, bio-retentions, permeable pavement, stormfilters, and infiltration pipes. The state-of-the-art facility serves both the Washington Mystics and Washington Wizards sports teams, as well as operating as a venue for local concerts and various community events.
