Wiles Mensch Corporation – DC (WM) provided land surveying, civil engineering, and landscape architecture services for the design and development of the 93,419 SF Pepco Waterfront Substation Number 223, a newly constructed 230- 138/13.8kV substation.

The survey team was responsible for providing boundary, topographic, and utility surveys for the site, as well as survey to mark and building plats. A full range of civil engineering services were provided for the facility’s design. Scope of services included provision of stormwater management design, sediment and erosion control plans, traffic control plans, stormwater pollution prevention plan, foundation to grade package, and raze permit documents.

Landscape architecture services were provided to address project elements including Code Compliant Plantings, streetscape, planters, and Green Area Ratio (GAR) calculations. Schematic design included presentation of possible ideas for sustainable design that could be integrated into the project’s landscape. Further landscape services included investigation of design issues, confirmation of design validity, and development for hardscape and softscape elements.

The design-build project is expected to achieve LEED BD+C certification. The project earned the DBIA Mid-Atlantic Region Excellence in Design – Architecture & Engineering Award in 2019.
