Wiles Mensch Corporation – DC (WM) provided surveying and civil engineering services for the modernization of the Social Security Administration Altmeyer Building. The modernization involved the demolition of the existing structure, excluding the building’s envelop. The demolition included complete removal of the asphalt drop off loop and associated curb & gutter, a portion of North Drive, and pedestrian pavements near the building entrance. Portions of the memorial garden were also removed and relocated.

WM is provided surveying services, document existing site conditions to guide the completion of the concept and development designs. The WM team was also responsible for the stormwater management design; meeting MDE and EISA Section 438 requirements through the use of MDE Environmental Site Design (ESD) practices of permeable pavements, micro-bioretentions, bio and grass swales. Utility distribution was designed and implemented to include a storm sewer conveyance system.
Upon project completion, the building’s interior and exterior was modernized. The site’s landscape was also completely redesigned, including the memorial garden. All exterior elements were designed in consideration of improved site circulation.

Design elements were implemented in order to achieve LEED Gold level certification.
