Wiles Mensch Corporation – DC (WM) provided surveying and civil engineering services for a new 11-acre adaptive reuse project located on the St. Elizabeth’s East Campus. Developed in accordance with the St. Elizabeth’s East Master Plan and Design Guidelines, the development seeks to preserve the history of the campus and provide affordable and market rate housing to the community. A portion of the residential units have been set aside for senior housing. The project is made up of seven historic buildings with four secure interior courtyards. The project site is located directly across from the newly constructed DC Entertainment and Sports Arena, which further activates and invigorates the surrounding neighborhood.
WM’s scope of services includes ALTA, boundary, topographic and utility surveys; stormwater management, sediment and erosion control,, traffic control plans, EIF coordination, and site grading. Heritage trees throughout the site, as well as historic sloped roofs, created a challenge to fully achieve compliance with the District’s stormwater management retention requirements. The WM team overcame this obstacle by implementing a unique combination of stormwater management practices strategically placed throughout the site. These SWM facilities include multiple underground infiltration pipes, bioretention areas, and preservation of the existing heritage trees.
