Wiles Mensch Corporation – DC (WM) is providing surveying, civil engineering, and dry utility services for Parcel H of The Yards, a 42-acre development located near the waterfront in SE Washington, DC. Parcel H will include 22,000 square feet of retail beneath 500 apartments, 20% of which will be affordable. The development is slated to feature a publicly-accessible café on street level, as well as a semi-public courtyard creating a cut-thru between N Place and First Street.
The WM survey team provided boundary and topographic surveys for Parcel H as a basis for the design team. WM is also providing civil engineering services to support the project from concept design to construction administration, including preliminary GAR calculations, stormwater management design, as-built drawings for DC Water, and PSCH and PDRM hearings.
Dry utility engineering services being provided for this project include site assessment and conceptual planning for Pepco, Washington Gas, and telecommunication utility plans. The WM Dry Utilities team will calculate the final load into the size of facilities needed for each service prepare and submit Pepco Structural Facility Drawings and Verizon/Comcast conduit plans for review and approval. Coordination with PEPCO to establish temporary services to the site may also be provided.
Parcel H is expected to achieve LEED certification upon completion. WM is providing design assistance to meet LEED certification requirements for site infrastructure elements, providing initial consultation and feasibility review to develop strategies to maximize potential LEED credits given the program for the site.
